The Bellevue Chamber hosted the event at the Bellevue City Council Chambers that was organized as a joint chamber event with the Sarpy Chamber of Commerce.

Special thanks to our legislators Senators Sue Crawford, Tommy Garrett and Bill Kintner for attending this early morning event.

Different bills were discussed including the learning commmunity, medicaid expansion, and lessening the taxes on social security and military retirement.

Congressman Lee Terry Visits Papillion, 6 January

Congressman Lee Terry visited “The Egg & I” in Papillion to a packed meeting room with many in attendance stating that the choice of location at the new Papillion restaurant was a draw for them. He discussed the Omnibus bill, sequestration, veteran benefits and education.

The subject of Common Core was brought up. Common Core seeks to unify content and curriculum throughout the states. Those opposed say it lowers standards, prevents the states from fully exercising their state rights with respect to education and that Common Core implements a political agenda.

Congressman Terry said that he believed that the school board would be voting in favor of adopting Common Core soon.

Nebraska Legislative Session Begins Today!

Today begins the first day of the 103rd Legislature 2nd Session for Nebraska’s Unicameral. The cold weather will not stop some good heated debate this year.  Some of the bigger issues that will be covered are tax reform and the Learning Communities.

Legislation is expected to be introduced today that include the elimination of property tax for religious organizations, notice requirements for zoning, redevelopment projects, and neighborhood associations,application procedures for real estate licenses and intent of Civil Air Patrol.
