 Sue Crawford: Narrative

As an Olde Towne Bellevue homeowner and parent of children in Bellevue Public Schools, I am personally invested in strengthening economic development, education, and the quality of life in our Bellevue/Offutt community. My expertise analyzing budgets and policies combined with my experience knowing how policies affect families and businesses enables me to be an effective Senator.

For over 17 years, I have taught public policy at Creighton University and worked with government and nonprofit partners such as Senator Hagel’s health care committee and the Nebraska Office of Rural Health.  My connections in the Bellevue community include involvement in organizations such as the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, PTAs, and New Life Baptist Church.

My supporters include Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.  I will work with citizens and Senators from all parties to make Nebraska a better place to live, work, run businesses, and raise families. I will protect the sanctity of life.  I will work with state and local leaders to push for infrastructure and development to create jobs in the Bellevue area, ensure that teachers and parents are equal partners in decision-making, create accountability mechanisms to protect vulnerable individuals and taxpayer money, reduce retiree taxes, and support veterans and military families.

 Senator Paul Lambert: Biography

Appointed to Nebraska Legislature: Oct. 7, 2011, to replace Dave Pankonin, who resigned.

District: 2

Born: July 12, 1950 in Omaha.

Education: Graduate of Nehawka High School, 1968; attended Wayne State College and the University of Omaha.

Home Town: Plattsmouth

Family: Married Patty Long, Oct. 3, 1992, one child.

Occupation: Auto sales consultant.

Former: Plattsmouth mayor; sales representative; ironworker; construction foreman.

Member: First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge #6.

Former member: Plattsmouth City Council.

Narrative:

On October 6, 2011 I was honored to be appointed by Governor Dave Heineman to represent District 2 in the Nebraska Legislature. The appointment was prompted by the resignation of Senator Dave Pankonin, who left office to devote more time to his family’s business matters.

I am a lifelong resident of Cass County. My father was a farmer and factory worker, and my mother was an elementary school teacher. As a teenager I worked on the family farm, where I developed a strong understanding of and respect for Nebraska’s farm economy.

I attended Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I then earned a real estate license, worked construction as an iron worker and served as a sales consultant for companies such as Firestone, Goodyear and Michelin. I came to know and understand the strengths, challenges and unique needs of Nebraska’s labor force.

In 1999 I was appointed to the Plattsmouth City Council. I was twice elected to the Council and became the Council’s president in 2003. Later the same year I became mayor of Plattsmouth and was reelected to the position for two more terms.

My wife Patty and I have been married for 19 years, and I am an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Plattsmouth.

I am energized by the opportunity to represent District 2 in the Nebraska Legislature. My primary goal will always be to leave our district and this state better than I found it.
